Do you double-cleanse?

There was once a time when we all believed washing our faces with soap and water was all the cleansing our skin needed before we call it a night.

Then double cleansing came along, and our bedtime routines were never the same again.

Turns out our usual soap-and-water combo (and face wipes) isn’t going to cut it if we want all that gunk and grime off our face after a full day at work

Step 1

First, you use your favorite oil-based cleanser or micellar water to wipe off makeup and oil buildup. Using a Micellar water, which is a neutral non-lathering emulsion, will gently remove the makeup and oils and gently wipe them off leaving the natural hydrating oils behind.

Step 2

After the first step has removed any makeup and impurities, step two involves a good old-fashioned lathering cleanser and water. (like Mazi's Balancing Multi Effect Cleanser)

Pro tip: Because of the way the follicles are oriented on the face, it's best to wash upwards and outwards in order to get a deeper and better cleanse. When you're applying makeup, the reverse is true. When ideally, you don't want to drive into your pores.

What are the benefits of double cleansing?

A quick wash and go might seem like the only option at the end of a long day, but if you wear a full face of heavy make-up, double cleansing is the best way to ensure your skin is free from all impurities.

Double cleansing each evening will also brighten any dullness, ultimately lifting the complexion, and slough away the dead skin cells that are sitting on the surface.

Pro tip: Double cleansing can really help if you have very oily skin and are finding that your regular cleanser isn’t removing enough excess oil but that a stronger single cleanser leaves your oily skin feeling tight and dry. It’s far better to use two gentle cleansers than one harsh, drying cleanser!
